TODAY: Integritas applications due

Applications for the Center's new student group, Integritas, a group that aims to integrate scholarship, spirituality, and service, are due today. It is open to 10-15 undergraduates who want to explore how the spiritual and corporal works of mercy complement one another. There is still space in the group, and it is open to Notre Dame, St. Mary's College, and Holy Cross College. Integritas begins Thursday, Nov. 4 with an opening Mass and dinner. TONIGHT: J.F. Powers lecture to conclude our Catholic Culture Series

Please join us TONIGHT for the last lecture in our Catholic Culture Literature Series, "Strangers in a Strange Land: Four Catholic American Authors." Rev. Marvin O'Connell, emeritus professor of history at Notre Dame, will be speaking on the works of J.F. Powers at 8 p.m. in DeBartolo Hall, room 141.

Webinar: "Poor Prenatal Diagnosis of Lethal or Non-Lethal Conditions and Disability."

On Oct. 5 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., the diocesan Office of Family Life and the Notre Dame Center for Ethics and Culture will host a group viewing of a live webinar entitled "Poor Prenatal Diagnosis of Lethal or Non-Lethal Conditions and Disability." Presented by the National Catholic Partnership on Disability and the USCCB Secretariat for Pro Life Activities, the webinar will examine medical issues, Catholic Church teaching, pastoral care and family support, and provide the opportunity for live Q & A. The webinar will be held on Notre Dame's campus in 121 ITC (Information Technology Center), the building east of the reflecting pool in front of the Hesburgh Library.

St. Marcellus workshop in October

Each year, the Center for Peace and Nonviolence, a coalition of churches in South Bend, honor the Feast of St. Marcellus with a theological workshop. St. Marcellus is an early church martyr whose relics are kept in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at Notre Dame. This year, on Thursday, October 28, William Cavanaugh will deliver the keynote lecture, and on Friday, October 29 Cavanaugh will run a workshop entitled "Theopolitical Imagination and the Mission of the Church." Since space is limited, registration is necessary.

Thursday, October 28 also includes a pilgrimage to the relics, a free dinner, as well as the evening prayer service at the Basilica. None of these events require registration, only Friday's workshop. The full schedule of events is available here.

TONIGHT: Flannery O'Connor lecture for our Catholic Culture Series

Please join us TONIGHT when Prof. Ralph Wood of Baylor University will contribute a lecture on the works of Flannery O'Connor to our Catholic Culture Series, "Strangers in a Strange Land: Four Catholic Americans." The lecture is at 8 p.m. in DeBartolo Hall Room 141. Ralph Wood has delivered many riveting lectures on Catholic authors for us in past years, and we have no doubt tonight's will be equally absorbing!

TONIGHT: Film screening of "Nine Days That Changed the World"

Join us tonight at 7 p.m. in Washington Hall for a screening of the film "Nine Days That Changed the World," a documentary about Pope John Paul II's visit to Poland in 1979 to support the Solidarity workers' rights movement. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and his wife Callista will be presenting the film. Free and open to the public; doors open at 6:30 p.m.

TONIGHT: Walker Percy lecture for our Catholic Culture Series

Join us tonight at 8 p.m. in DeBartolo Hall, Room 141, for our second "Strangers in a Strange Land: Four Catholic American Writers" lecture. Prof. John O'Callaghan of Notre Dame's philosophy department will be giving the lecture on southern writer Walker Percy. We hope to see you there!
